    Are these Georgia Historic Homes open for tours?

    The Washington Historical Museum, housed in a historic 1835 Antebellum home, and the Robert Toombs House State Historic Site are open to the public.  Tours of other remarkable historic homes are available through private tours and during the annual Spring Tour of Homes in April and the festive Christmas Tour of Homes in December.

    Is there a walking tour of the Historic Homes?

    What is there to see at the Revolutionary War battlefield?

    The Battle of Kettle Creek was one of the most significant Revolutionary War battles fought in Georgia and the only battle won by the American Patriots in Georgia.  Kettle Creek Battlefield is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Each February, the City of Washington hosts Revolutionary Days, one of the most moving Revolutionary War reenactments in Georgia.

    Are there any Black History sites in the area?

    These are two of many Black history sites to visit in Washington. Jackson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, erected in 1877, was the first church erected in Wilkes County by newly freed men. Cherry Grove Schoolhouse is a rare surviving example of an early 20th century, rural African American school and one of only 15 extant pre-Rosenwald African American schoolhouses built on church grounds within the state of Georgia.

    Where is there to stay in Washington-Wilkes?

    Washington to Clarks Hill Lake is about 20 minutes.  Clarks Hill Lake is also referred to as Lake Strom Thurmond in South Carolina.

    Atlanta is about two hours from Washington-Wilkes. It is 110 miles to Washington-Wilkes by way of Athens or on Interstate I-20 East.

    How close is Athens to Washington Georgia?

    Athens is about an hour from Washington-Wilkes. It is 45 miles to Washington-Wilkes by way of highway US 78.

    How close is Augusta to Washington Georgia?

    Augusta is about an hour from Washington-Wilkes. It is 55 miles to Washington-Wilkes by way of I-20 West.

    Does Washington-Wilkes have an airport?

    The Washington-Wilkes Airport is located five minutes from downtown Washington.  The airport is a public use airport with 24-hour fuel service and has a 5020 x 72 runway, parallel taxiway to both runways, and lighted windsock.
